New Adventure: The Adventurists Mongol/Africa Rally

The Adventurists Africa Rally

I've entered into The Adventurists Africa Rally, which is a charity event in aid of the Send A Cow charity.

The rally leaves from London's Hyde Park and finishes in Cameroon. The rules of the rally are that there is no fixed route, and that the vehicle you use must have an engine of less than 1000cc.

I plan to use a Suzuki SJ410, which at 970cc is the only 4x4 which fits these rules.

I originally tried to enter the Mongol Rally, but due to chronic over-subscription, I was unable to secure a place. However, I've received interest from several large sponsors who are only interested in sponsoring me if my route goes through eastern Europe. To keep everybody happy, and to abide by the rally's rules I have the following solution - my route to Cameroon will be via Mongolia, effectively I'll be completing BOTH rallies - back-to-back

As far as I know, I'm the only person attempting this, and I guess there is a reason for that... time will tell if this was either a genius idea of a foolish one!

Unfortunately, I've had to modify my plans - whilst I'd have loved to have attempted both rallies, the reality is that single handedly attempting to drive through the Sahara isn't particularly wise or safe. I'm also not sure time constraints would allow me to complete both rallies anyway. I need to be in Brisbane by September 6th for the start of The Postie Bike Challenge

Luckily, I've found a few other participants on the Africa Rally who would like to take a route through eastern Europe, the middle east and then onto Cameroon - this solution is safer, and still keeps my sponsors happy :)
